Our History

A brief history...

In 1997, an unofficial group of alumni celebrated Kaiser High School's 25th anniversary by holding a luau in the school cafeteria.  The money raised at this event was earmarked in hopes to one day be used for the birth of an alumni association.

Late 2005, Hale Wilson, Renee Lum (Nakamura), Marc Koga, and Julianne Kumashiro (Umeda), and Sara Daly met with other alumni associations to learn what it would take to found our own association. In April 2006, KHSAA was founded.

The first board members were:
Sara Daly, Class of 1983, President
Julie Cooper, Class of 1983, President Elect
Julianne Kumashiro (Umeda), Class of 1981, Treasurer
Renee Lum (Nakamura), Class of 1981, Recording Secretary
Hale Wilson, Class of 1979, Corresponding Secretary
Marc Koga, Class of 2002, Membership Chair

Current Board:
Julie Cooper, Class of 1983, President
(vacant) President Elect
Julianne Kumashiro (Umeda), Class of 1981, Treasurer
Renee Lum (Nakamura), Class of 1981, Recording Secretary
Hale Wilson, Class of 1979, Corresponding Secretary
Marc Koga, Class of 2002, Membership Chair

The mission of the association is:

  • To develop and maintain an association that supports the mission of KHS.
  • To afford all former students of KHS with an active organization through which they are able to remain connected to the school as well as to fellow alumnus.
  • To help develop and instill pride in Kaiser High School.

Today we are 136 members strong.  Since our inception we have participated in many events to support our mission.  Our activities have included:

  • Kaiser Homecoming games – we have been known to paint cougar paws on faces, hand out pom poms, boom sticks, and cougar paw tattoos.
  • Kaiser 35th Anniversary Luau held in April 2007.  We featured Kaiser homegrown band Next Generation.  Over 100 KHS alumni and friends attended this event.
  • We have also been an annual supporter of Kaiser High School’s Project Graduation.  Every year since 2006, we have made a monetary donation to be used for any graduate wanting to attend Project Graduation but maybe could not afford the registration fee.
  • We have also participated and supported the Maunalua Bay Annual Independence Day event for the last two years. To develop and maintain an association that supports the mission of KHS.

Goals:

  • To be the hub for all reunion planners so that they can reach their classmates
  • To offer college scholarships to graduates of Kaiser High School who exemplify the cougar spirit to fulfill the mission of this association.
  • To be able to hold an Annual Alumni Dinner to honor distinguished alumni – proceeds to support KHS.
